Comment naît une peinture abstraite contemporaine ? La création d'une artiste peintre.

How is a contemporary abstract painting born? The creation of a female artist.

The secrets of a painter's creative process

The journey from inspiration to creation

Among the most frequently asked questions are, "What does this painting represent?" "But Kellestom, how do you start? What does it represent?"

However, in abstract art, the approach is often different. Abstract art is often defined around shapes, colors, emotions, and the creative process rather than the representation of reality. Unlike figurative painting, abstract art does not necessarily seek to faithfully represent reality. Shapes, colors, textures, and rhythms become the true subjects of the work. Each viewer can then construct their own interpretation, guided by their feelings and imagination.

An abstract painting does not represent a landscape, a face, or an identifiable object. It is born primarily from an emotion, a feeling, or an inner energy.

These elements become the starting point of a dialogue between the artist and the canvas.

When I start painting, nothing is completely defined. The first strokes are spontaneous. Colors meet, shapes appear then disappear, some areas are covered while others gain importance. Here is a journey to the heart of my creative process, from the blank canvas to the final signature.

1 -The inspiration behind an abstract painting

  •  Inspiration: each work begins with an impulse, a color that particularly attracts me, a memory that comes back, music, light glimpsed during a trip, or simply a current state of mind.
  • The palette: Before even touching the brushes, I choose my colors. They are the ones that will tell the story. Muted and melancholic tones, or an explosion of vibrant and contrasting pigments? The dialogue begins here.

2 - Colors: the primary language of the work

The blank canvas can be intimidating. To tame it, one must act quickly. This is the most physical and intuitive phase.

I trace the first lines, I throw the first masses of color without overthinking. It's a liberating act. At this stage, I don't look for "beauty", I look for movement. I use large brushes to structure the space.

Each abstract painting has its own story. Some are born from a travel memory, others from an emotion or simply from a meeting between a color and a shape.

What begins with a few intuitive gestures gradually becomes a unique work, the fruit of a constant dialogue between the artist and the material.
